Dr. Jialu Vivianne Tang is a Research Fellow at the Center for Time Use Research (CTUR). She holds a PhD in Sociology of Education from the University of Picardie Jules Verne (UPJV) in France. Since 2014, she has been an Associate Professor at Southwest Jiaotong University in China. Her early research, conducted in collaboration with ENS-Lyon and IIEP-UNESCO, focused on elite education and social reproduction in Higher Education within evolving educational cost-sharing mechanisms. Published in both French and English, this work provided a comparative (French/China) and historical insights into educational stratification. She also led a research project on social reproduction during the massification of higher education, funded by the Ministry of Education of China. In recent years, one of her focuses shifted to the study of time-use, specifically examining mechanisms of social reproduction through time diary data. By comparing Chinese data with international counterparts, she aims to elucidate the characteristics of Chinese educational system and explore influences of gender and geography. Her research integrates the temporal dimension of cultural capital on a global and historical scale. Through the collaboration with several internationals partners, Dr. Tang seeks to deepen understanding of the relationships between education, society, and policy, with a particular focus on the role of time-use in shaping educational outcomes and social structures during periods of educational system transformation.
