Candidates should have a PhD in sociology or a related social science discipline, with a strong quantitative component. They should have an excellent track record of research and publications in their field, and ambitious plans for future research. The substantive topic of research expertise is open; the person appointed will be expected to contribute to both the substantive and methodological research activities of the Department. The position carries a normal departmental teaching load of around 40 hours per year. The successful candidate will have the capacity to teach quantitative research methods at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels; the majority of teaching will be delivered in the University's Social Science Research Methods Centre (SSRMC), which is located within the Sociology Department, and which provides training in basic and advanced research methods to postgraduate students from departments from social science and other departments across the University. The appointee will play a full role in the life of the Sociology Department; he or she will also work closely with the Director of the SSRMC, Dr Maria Iacovou, playing a key role in the strategic development of the SSRMC's teaching programme. This post is fixed term: the funds for this post are available from 1 September 2014 until 31 March 2019 in the first instance.
